President

Yolanda Nunn Gorman ’78, M.B.A. ’83, Ph.D. ’93

Yolanda Nunn Gorman is president and chief executive officer of Brilliance Strategies, Inc. (formerly Nunn Consulting, Inc.), a full service management consulting firm dedicated to the needs of nonprofit agencies. She teaches workshops on proposal writing, evaluation, nonprofit board development, fundraising and nonprofit management. In addition, Gorman is core faculty and the director of a doctoral program in Organizational Consulting at Phillips Graduate Institute in Encino, Calif. Recipient of the Richard Riordan Award for Business Leadership, Gorman also serves as a proposal reviewer for the U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Gorman is a graduate of the inaugural class of the Alumni Association’s Alumni Academy and past Association president and vice president. An active volunteer with multiple community, civic and cultural organizations, she has served as chair of the board of the California Association of Nonprofits and the Sickle Cell Disease Foundation of California and is currently the alumni regent on the UC Board of Regents.

Ernesto Alfaro ’96

Alfaro is currently at Chevron Corporation in human resources strategy and planning and is responsible for workforce metrics and analytics. Recent assignments have included managing the Unocal international human resources integration, compensation analysis and a six-month human resources project assignment in Lagos, Nigeria. His previous professional experience includes regional programs director for alumni relations at the Anderson School at UCLA. He received his M.B.A at USC and currently serves on the corporate advisory board for the Consortium for Graduate Study in Management. While at UCLA, Alfaro served on the Alumni Scholars Club as president and University Service director and was tours co-director for the Student Alumni Association's Parents Weekend. Since graduation, he has chaired the Ralph J. Bunche Scholarship Committee and served on the Educational Outreach and Scholarship Steering committees.

General Counsel

Mark Terman ’79

Terman, a partner with Reish Luftman Reicher & Cohen law firm, earned his law degree from Loyola. His broad Association experience includes a previous term as general counsel, and work on the Executive, Finance Review, Bylaws, Nominations and Volunteer Recruitment, Membership and Benefits, Greek Relations, Volunteer Relations, Diversity, Alumni Awards, and multiple award nomination and scholarship committees. Other UCLA activities include Chancellor's Associates, Intrafraternity Council, Zeta Beta Tau, Westside Development Committee and governmental relations. He is active with a wide range of professional and community organizations, including the American, State of California, Washington D.C. and Los Angeles County bar associations; Association of Business Trial Lawyers, Society of Competitive Intelligence Professionals, Professionals In Human Resources Association, Children's Nature Institute, Los Angeles Junior Chamber of Commerce, Museum of Contemporary Art, Contemporaries Support Group and Los Angeles Conservancy. He was admitted to the U.S. Supreme Court in 1992.

Treasurer

Ron Takasugi ’78

A CPA, Takasugi is the chief financial officer of a real estate development company headquartered in Century City. He served as the 2005-06 UCLA Alumni Association vice president He also has served on the Association's Finance Review Committee, as a board director, on scholarship and award committees and as a Homecoming Parade judge. He has volunteered for Interview With a Bruin and UC Day in Sacramento. Takasugi is a member of the University Recreational Advisory Committee and has served on the board of directors of the John R. Wooden Center. Outside UCLA, he has been a club soccer coach, manager and national referee, and was involved in teaching and coaching youth sports programs.

Interim Executive Director

Marci Weisblatt ’90

Weisblatt began her appointment as interim assistant vice chancellor for alumni relations and interim executive director of the UCLA Alumni Association on Sept. 1, 2006. In her current role, she oversees the administration of one of the world's largest and most demographically diverse alumni associations, which includes more than 350,000 alumni worldwide, 86,000 dues-paying members and an active volunteer base of 6,500 students and alumni. Weisblatt has served as associate executive director for the Association for six years, working closely with the executive director in the overall management of the organization. During her tenure, she has been responsible for all programming, events, marketing, campus relations and volunteer relations. Weisblatt has built dynamic and effective campus partnerships, launched new large-scale events, including the UCLA Women’s Conference and Blue and Gold Week, and has reorganized the organization’s volunteer recruitment efforts.

After graduating from UCLA, Weisblatt joined the professional staff of the Associated Students UCLA (ASUCLA), working in the executive director’s office, then went to Levy, Pazanti and Associates — a prominent fundraising event firm in Los Angeles. In 1994, she moved to the American Heart Association, rising to the post of vice president of corporate events. While at the American Heart Association, she was recognized with two national awards: the Newcomer’s Award and the Award of Excellence for Community Organization.

Directors

Lawrence H. Davis ’77, M.S. ’79

In addition to his two UCLA degrees, Davis holds advanced degrees in law and financial services. He is a private practice attorney specializing in estate planning, trust and probate law. His UCLA-related roles include Chancellor's Associates and various leadership positions, including president, for the San Fernando Valley Bruins. Davis is widely recognized for his active and vocal support at UCLA athletics events. He also volunteers as a youth baseball and basketball coach.

Dani de Jesus ’00

De Jesus spent her student years taking full advantage of her UCLA opportunities. In addition to her studies, she served in several leadership roles for the Student Alumni Association, including president and executive director of Spring Sing; and was active in other projects and organizations, including Bruin Belles, the Clothesline Project, Office of Residential Life, Delta Gamma sorority, EXPO and was a camp counselor at Bruin Woods. As an alumna, she volunteers for SAA's Entertainment Night and been on the Association's Membership and Benefits Committee. De Jesus also has served as an educator for the Los Angeles Commission on Assaults Against Women. She is director of development at Craig Anderson Productions, developing film and TV projects. Gail Grant M.B.A./M.P.H. ’92

A physician, Grant currently works in quality measurement and hospital administration at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Working with medical staff, nurses, executives and decision support professionals, she works to measure and improve the safety, quality, and efficiency of patient care provided at the medical center.

Before coming to UCLA, Grant earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from Yale and a medical degree from Columbia. She is former chair of the Health Care Collaborative at UCLA and the Health Care Management Student Association at the Anderson School of Management. She also served on the Anderson School's Alumni Board of Directors.

Jason Lo ’98

Lo holds a law degree from Harvard and currently is an attorney at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP, specializing in intellectual property and antitrust litigation. He has served on the board of the UCLA Club of Boston and currently sits on the board of the UCLA Asian Pacific Alumni Association as well as the Project by Project Steering Committee.

Sal Rodriguez ’89

Rodriguez began his involvement with the Alumni Association in 1998. He has been involved in many projects, including Interview With a Bruin, Outstanding Senior Award Committee, Alumni Academy and South Bay Bruins, for which he served as president. Since graduation, Rodriguez has been involved in the travel and tour industry, the automotive industry, and for the last five years, the satellite industry with DirecTV. He also has done work in the music industry.

Stephanie Brown ’85

Brown has served the Alumni Association in a number of roles, chairing district, regional and state committees for the Freshman Scholarship Program, district chair of the Community College Program, and president of the Bay Area Bruins. An economics major, Brown is a financial consultant who specializes in helping clients create accumulate and conserve their net worth. In addition to her service to UCLA, Brown has taught at the Jubilee Christian Center, been chapter secretary for the Society of Financial Service Professionals and served on the board of Las Brisas Homeowners Association.

Lori Pelliccioni M.P.H. ’96, Ph.D. ’02

Lori Pelliccioni’s career has taken her from the courthouse to the classroom. She received her juris doctorate in 1986 and worked as a litigation associate with Katten Muchin and Zavis. She moved on to the United States Attorney’s Office where she served as an assistant United States attorney prosecuting health care fraud cases. Since leaving government service, Pelliccioni has been a partner in PricewaterhouseCooper’s Health Care Practice, the chief compliance officer and acting general counsel for DaVita, Inc. and health care consultant and interim corporate counsel for Amgen, Inc. She currently serves as the acting general counsel and chief compliance officer for Simplex Healthcare, Inc.

At UCLA, Pelliccioni studied health law, examining regulatory compliance, health care fraud and abuse. She is currently an assistant professor in the School of Public Health.

Pelliccioni is the immediate past chair and the alumni regent designate of UC California for the UCLA Alumni Association Board of Directors, a member of the School of Public Health’s alumni board and a past president of the UCLA Health Policy and Management Alumni Association. She is also a member of the Delta Omega Society.

Sarah Schwartz ’99

Schwartz has worked for SBC Communications Inc. since graduation and currently oversees one of the company's Southern California high-end business call centers. She also volunteers with the Hospice of Pasadena and for her national sorority, Alpha Epsilon Phi. She chaired the Career Services Committee and has served on the Awards Resource Committee, two awards nominating committees and as a Homecoming Parade judge.

Charlie Steinmetz M.B.A. ’77

Steinmetz currently serves on the board of visitors for the UCLA Cotsen Institute of Archaeology and the UCLA Library. In addition, he is a volunteer project manager for the UCLA Cultural Virtual Reality Lab. Steinmetz is a graduate of the Alumni Academy and has been a Bruin Woods camper since 1987. A commercial real estate investor, Steinmetz’s community leadership includes serving on the board of the Archaeological Institute of America, the Ocean Institute in Dana Point, and is currently President of the Friends of St. Lawrence Literacy Center in Watts.

Daniel Wolfus ’67, M.B.A. ’69

Wolfus is the founder and publisher of Estylo, a Los Angeles-based bilingual entertainment and style magazine that is nationally distributed. Before starting his own magazine, he served two terms as treasurer for the Yosemite Association. He is currently the area vice president of Chief Executive Organization, Inc., a group of former leaders of The Young Presidents’ Organization who are dedicated to enhancing personal relationships through continuing education and idea exchange.

Cormac Carney ’83

Carney is currently a federal judge for the United States District Court for the Central District of California. He was nominated to the federal bench by President Bush in January 2003 and confirmed by the Senate in April 2003. As a federal judge, he handles complex civil and criminal matters, including patents, copyright, trademarks, securities, business finance, civil rights, drug conspiracies and white collar crime. Before becoming a federal judge, he was a California Superior Court judge, appointed by Governor Gray Davis in October 2001. As a state judge, Carney presided over criminal and civil jury trials involving domestic violence, assault and battery, theft, breach of contract and personal injury.

Carney graduated from UCLA cum laude, in psychology. As an undergraduate, he played varsity football and achieved Academic All-American recognition. After a one-year stint playing professional football in the USFL, he attended Harvard Law School and obtained his J.D. in 1987.

Prior to his appointment to the bench, Carney practiced business litigation with the nationally recognized law firm of O'Melveny & Myers. He became a litigation partner at O'Melveny & Myers in 1995. While at O'Melveny & Myers, he gained experience in a wide variety of business litigation areas, including real estate, partnership, lender liability, environmental, securities, intellectual property and insurance coverage.

Carney is involved in the Federal Bar Association, the Orange County Bar Association and the Association of Business Trial Lawyers. He devotes significant time speaking at and participating in numerous events sponsored by those legal community organizations.

Wayne Collett ’71, M.B.A ’73, J.D. ’77

Collett is currently a principal of Citizens Home Funding, Inc., a mortgage company. He was a practicing attorney for 15 years prior to entering the mortgage business. As an undergraduate, Collett earned the Outstanding Senior Award, and while attending UCLA's Anderson School of Management, he won a silver medal in the 400-meter dash at the 1972 Munich Olympics Games. Following the completion of his studies, he continued his involvement with UCLA. He chaired the Alumni Awards Steering Committee and the UCLA Athletic Hall of Fame and served on the Bunche Scholarship Committee, several Alumni Awards Nominating Committees and the UCLA Athletic Hall of Fame Nominating Committee. Collett was elected into UCLA's Athletic Hall of Fame in 1992. 

Debra Hunter Holloway ’86

Holloway is president of Information Design Consultants. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in political science, Holloway continued her involvement at UCLA by serving on the Alumni Association Board of Directors and Marketing Committee, and with Bruin Professionals, UCLA Black Alumni Association, and Alumni Academy.

Lee Kolligian ’85

After graduating from Stanford Law School, Kolligian practiced entertainment law and became a sports agent for many prominent professional athletes, including Muhammad Ali. He is involved with the UC Merced Foundation as the vice chairman of the campus’ Finance Committee and also serves on the board of directors for Lance-Kashian, a land development company in Fresno.

Trisha Murakawa ’87

Murakawa is owner of Murakawa Communications, a strategic communications and public affairs firm in Redondo Beach. Before starting her company, she worked at UCLA Governmental Relations. Maintaining close ties with UCLA after graduating, she was involved in the Bruin Caucus, Alumni Association Marketing Committee, the Alumni Awards Committee and a local scholarship selection committee. Also an active volunteer with several civic and community organizations, Murakawa is active with the American Lung Association of California, the Redondo Beach Harbor Commission and writes a column for a local community paper.

Eleanor Brewer M.B.A. '86

Brewer has held various Association volunteer positions including board treasurer and chair of the Professional and Academic Council. She has been a member of the Anderson Board of Visitors, Development Committee and the Anderson School Dean Search Committee. She was president of the UCLA Anderson Alumni as well as president of the Executive M.B.A. Alumni Associations. She is also a member of Gold Shield. In addition to her service to UCLA, Brewer volunteers at Regina Residence, an assisted living facility for retired religious sisters, and at the Fullerton College Horticulture Department. She is a retired health care executive.

Cindy Mosqueda '02, M.A. '05

Mosqueda is currently a second year graduate student in higher education, with a focus on researching the educational opportunities for Chicano and Latino students. As a UCLA undergraduate, Mosqueda served as an undergraduate representative for the General Education Governance Committee and as general representative in the Undergraduate Students Association Council. She also held leadership roles in MEChA de UCLA and the Affirmative Action Coalition. Mosqueda recently has been active with the Community Activities Committee and the Alumni Association Scholarship Committee.

James (Tim) McCarthy

McCarthy currently serves as chair for The UCLA Foundation. A member of The Foundation since 1992, McCarthy has been a UCLA Foundation Investment Committee member since 1995 and served as committee chair from 2003-05.
 
McCarthy is currently the treasurer of the McCarthy Family Foundation. Prior to this, he held several positions with Bumble Bee Seafoods, including serving as chief operating officer after its merger with Pillsbury. Prior to his seafood industry career, McCarthy was a naval officer for nine years, primarily at sea including combat service in Vietnam.

McCarthy volunteers for the United Way of San Diego County and serves on the board of the YMCA of San Diego County. He is also a director of Summer Science Program, Inc., the nation’s oldest program of its type for gifted high school students (UCLA was one of the founding institutions in 1959).  He is a director and past chair of San Diego Grantmakers, a regional philanthropic association.
 
McCarthy graduated with honors and a bachelor's degree in economics from Stanford University in 1964. He later earned his M.B.A. from George Washington University in 1971.

Robin Garrell

Robin Garrell is the vice provost for graduate education and dean of the graduate division at UCLA. She holds a biochemistry degree from Cornell and advanced degrees in macromolecular science and engineering from the University of Michigan. In 1991, she joined the faculty of the UCLA Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. She was chair of the UCLA Academic Senate in 2009 and chair faculty of the College of Letters and Science from 2003 to 2007. She is PI/director of the UCLA NSF-IGERT materials creation training program and a member of the CNSI and biomedical engineering faculty. She is also a charter member of the NIH enabling bioanalytical and imaging technologies study section.

Garrell received the National Science Foundation Presidential Young Investigator Award, Herbert Newby McCoy Award for Outstanding Research at UCLA, Iota Sigma Pi Agnes Fay Morgan Award, Hanson-Dow Award for Teaching Excellence at UCLA, 2003 UCLA Distinguished Teaching Award and UCLA Gold Shield Faculty Prize in 2009. She is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and an honorary fellow of the Society for Applied Spectroscopy.

Rhea Turteltaub

Rhea Turteltaub was appointed Vice Chancellor, External Affairs at UCLA in March 2008.

As vice chancellor, Turtletaub oversees a diverse, yet integrated department comprising Development, Alumni Relations, University Communications & Public Affairs, Government & Community Relations and The UCLA Foundation.

Leading a team of nearly 500, Turtletaub is actively working with campus leadership on the preparations for the University's 100th anniversary celebration which include plans for a Centennial Campaign. 

Turtletaub previously served as associate vice chancellor for Development with management responsibility for one of the most successful development programs of its kind. The campus has averaged more than $400 million in annual private support during the past three years. 

Campaign UCLA, completed in 2005, generated a record-setting $3.052 billion. 

Turtletaub began her UCLA career in the Office of Planned and Major Gifts. During the last 28 years, she served in varying capacities in annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, research, alumni and donor relations, regional development and campaign planning.

Prior to arriving at UCLA, Turtletaub held leadership positions at Otis College of Art and Design and The University of Chicago, as well as campaign positions at the University of California, Berkeley, and Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, where she also earned her bachelor’s degree in political science.

Turtletaub resides in Encino, California, with her husband, Adam, and their two young sons.

Executive Dean, UCLA College

Patricia O'Brien

O'Brien leads the largest academic unit in the University of California system. She is an expert on modern French history and in 19th and 20th century social and cultural history. She has held fellowships from the National Endowment of the Humanities and the National Humanities Center as well as a Regent's Faculty Fellowship from the University of California. She has twice held the prestigious post of directeur d'études at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales in Paris, France. Prior to her UCLA appointment, O'Brien served as dean of the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences at UC Riverside, and was the director of the UC Humanities Research Institute at UC Irvine.

Acting Chancellor

Norman Abrams

Abrams, a member of the UCLA family since 1959, has had a distinguished career as a professor in the School of Law. He teaches and writes in the areas of federal criminal law, anti-terrorism law and evidence.

From 1991 to 2001, Abrams served as UCLA's vice-chancellor of academic personnel, overseeing faculty appointments and promotions on the campus. He served as interim dean of the law school from 2003 to 2004, and earlier had served as associate dean, from 1989 to 1991.

The fourth edition of Abrams' groundbreaking casebook on federal criminal law, Federal Criminal Law and Its Enforcement (with Beale) was published in 2006. Another of his books, Anti-Terrorism and Criminal Enforcement, (2nd ed., 2005), is the first casebook to deal comprehensively with the rapidly evolving field of anti-terrorism law and the criminal enforcement process. He is also a co-author of Evidence — Cases and Materials, 9th ed. (with Berger, Mansfield, and Weinstein).

Born in Chicago in 1933, Abrams holds A.B. and J.D. degrees from the University of Chicago. While a student, he was editor-in-chief of the University of Chicago Law Review.

Before joining UCLA, he served as an associate in law at Columbia University Law School and as a research associate and director of the Harvard-Brandeis Cooperative Research for Israel's Legal Development at the Harvard Law School. While on leave from UCLA in 1966-67, he served as a special assistant to the Attorney General of the United States in the Criminal Division of the U.S. Department of Justice.
